IACP Student Member Spotlight: Alexander Tu, PharmD Candidate

IACP is pleased to continue a series of IACP Student Member Spotlights - focusing on the future of our pharmacy compounding profession - our Student Members!  

  • Tell us about yourself, what pharmacy school are you attending, and what year do you expect to graduate?

Hello, my name is Alexander Tu, and I am a student at the Belmont University College of Pharmacy in Nashville, Tenn., scheduled to graduate in 2016.

  • Why did you choose Pharmacy School?

I chose pharmacy school because I wanted to serve in a helping profession. Pharmacy school will provide me with the knowledge to educate people on the medicines they take. It also will help me to develop skills to improve patient care so people can live longer, healthier lives. 

  • What is your best or most interesting rotation (good or bad experiences welcomed)?

My most interesting rotation was my Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience at Hillside Hospital, a small, rural hospital in Pulaski, Tenn. This was my first exposure to hospital practice and pharmacy practice in an institutional setting. I had the opportunity to learn sterile technique and assist the pharmacists in ensuring that medication reached our patients in the correct dose and form, and at the right time. 

  • What do you want to do when you graduate?

When I graduate, I hope to be matched for a residency or fellowship program. I wish to pursue a career in pharmacy education administration with a particular focus on pharmacy student affairs: coordinating student events, providing academic support to students, and precepting students. 

  • What do you think the biggest difference in pharmacy practice will be in the next 10 years?

I believe the biggest difference in pharmacy practice in the next 10 years will be the emergence of medication therapy management as a standard of pharmaceutical care.
