A Message from IACP President Pat Stephens, PharmD

There is no doubt, that 2013 has proven to be one of the most challenging, interesting and stressful years for our profession. With tragedy though, comes progress. I believe the list of IACP accomplishments achieved with Immediate Past President Wade Siefert's, RPh, leadership in 2013 is testimony to that. Despite a year spent much in crisis mode, your Academy Board and Staff still managed to pull off some incredible feats this year.

As we begin 2014, I would like to help navigate the new landscape of compounding now that HR 3204 has become law.  I firmly believe that we as compounders have an opportunity before us to show the FDA that we have always and will continue to work to improve industry quality. If given the clear and right set of rules then we are more than capable of following them. USP 797 or cGMP. We now have the beginnings of some definitive information on what 503a pharmacies and 503b outsourcers are to operate under.

I believe very strongly the we need to continue to work and strongly lobby for compounders and patients rights. Now more than ever, our membership needs to be more actively involved with the Academy as well as in our state boards and associations. We each need to reach out to our fellow compounding colleagues, and ask if they are members of IACP.  If they're not, encourage them to pick up the phone and call IACP. All of our collective voices are a powerful tool!

As I begin my IACP presidency, I am so very proud to be a part of this extraordinary organization. I look forward to serving our membership by furthering our mission of Protecting, Promoting and Advancing our rights to compound.  Want to help us? Email and get involved, today.
