IACP’s David G. Miller, RPh To Present Advertising Part II at the Educational Conference

On the first day of the Continuing Education, IACP’s Executive Vice President and CEO David G. Miller, RPh will present Advertising Part II on Thursday, February 7 from 2-3 p.m. This session is important for everyone to attend as incorrectly marketing and promoting your business can put you in the hot seat. The old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” may be true, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get you into trouble when it comes to advertising and promoting your compounding services. Seemingly innocuous things like customer testimonials, Facebook and Twitter postings, even the images on your website can bring you unwanted attention by regulatory authorities. Marketing of prescription and non-prescription drugs are heavily regulated by not only the FDA but also the Federal Trade Commission and state consumer protection agencies. This entertaining session is designed to help you avoid some of the pitfalls in other pharmacy’s advertising – and possibly identify some in your own.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to:

  • List the five “do not’s” of wording, graphics, and claims that represent violations of consumer protection laws as they pertain to prescription drug promotion and compounded preparations in particular.
  • Evaluate samples of prescription promotional materials and explain what is correct and incorrect in each one.
  • Design a promotional piece for a mock compounded preparation that is compliant with state and federal laws.
