Message from IACP President Dale Coker

Last week, we sent you an email letting you know that David Miller, IACP’s EVP/CEO has decided to pursue a new opportunity. We cannot thank Dave enough for his years of service to IACP, especially during a time of extreme challenge and change in our profession. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish Dave well in his new position, and acknowledge the amazing impact he’s made for our members and our organization.

We’re extremely pleased to announce that Cynthia Blankenship, newly employed by the Rose Law Firm, has rejoined the IACP legislative team, and will help us continue the considerable momentum IACP has generated in Washington D.C.

As our Executive Search Committee, chaired by past president David Nicoletti, works to identify a new Executive Vice President, Cynthia will help us ensure that we don’t miss a beat on the many initiatives she’s begun over the last few years. She will continue her role as leader of the DQSA Coalition, which resulted from a strategic initiative from your Board of Directors.

Cynthia was instrumental in the formation of this unprecedented alliance to ensure that our members’ interests and those of your patients continue to be heard on Capitol Hill. Along with IACP’s D.C. legislative consulting firm, Arnold & Porter, Cynthia will continue to work on moving forward Senate Bill 1406, ensuring that prescribers do not lose access to office use which is so critical to so many physician practices and the patients they serve.

And, we’re thrilled to announce that she will continue to shepherd the amazing work she has done on Appropriations language. Ready for some more good news? We’ve learned just this week that ALL of the Appropriations language IACP fought so hard for is included.

IACP will continue to keep you apprised of any Appropriations news. Please stay tuned to Breaking News on the IACP website, our social media sites as well as to this newsletter!

Still Waiting

Almost five months ago, more than 3,000 concerned stakeholders submitted comments to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on the agency’s proposed Memorandum of Understanding Addressing Certain Distributions of Compounded Human Drug Products Between the States and the Food and Drug Administration.

That MOU, outlined within the Drug Quality & Security Act, is intended to define how the federal government and states will address the interstate distribution of compounded preparations. The proposed MOU, however, intertwined the definitions of “distribution” and “dispensing” in direct contradiction to Congressional intent.

When and if an MOU is released, IACP will let all of its members know via a special Member Alert, our newsletter, and postings on our Breaking News section of the Academy’s website.

REMINDER: USP <797> Comments are Due January 31st!

After several years in the making, the USP Expert Committee on Compounding released and advanced preview of its proposed revisions to General Chapter <797> Pharmaceutical Compounding/Sterile Preparations at the end of September.

The revisions can be found by clicking here. There is an open comment period through January 31, 2016.

Please click here for more information including how to submit your comments!

IACP is formulating its comments and will share with the IACP membership as soon as available.
