IACP’s Comprehensive Office-Use Resource Guide – Coming Soon!

Over the years, IACP has received a number of requests from Members for information regarding office-use in their respective states. Members ask, and your Academy responds!  IACP has compiled an all-encompassing, detailed resource guide with the most current legislation, rules and regulations pertaining to office-use for each state. Look for more details on IACP’s comprehensive Office Use Resource Guide in an upcoming Capitol Connections.

IACP Attends the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) Annual Convention

On August 3-4, 2012 in San Diego, Calif., IACP’s David G. Miller, RPh, Executive Vice President & CEO, and Sarah Dodge, Vice President of Government Affairs, will host an exhibit and speak to AVMA attendees about the value of pharmacy compounding for veterinarian practices. 

IACP’s main objectives for participating at the AVMA Annual Convention are to:

  • Educate veterinarians on the many services that compounding pharmacists can provide;
  • Establish a dialogue between the two professions so we can better communicate and work collaboratively to serve our respective patients;
  • Update veterinarian attendees on the Franck’s Pharmacy case and possible legal and regulatory repercussions of the outcome; and

IACP will launch its new Veterinary Compounding Fact Sheet at the AVMA Annual Convention.  As part of IACP’s continuous efforts to educate others about pharmacy compounding, the Academy developed this comprehensive fact sheet.

DEA Constructive Transfer Senate/House Letter Campaign Update

On July 24, 2012, a letter, championed by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and supported by a number of other U.S. senators, was sent to Michelle M. Leonhart, Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), on the issue of the “constructive transfer” of controlled substances.

Compounders on Capitol Hill Legislative Visit Status Report

Compounding pharmacists took the Hill by storm as they made more than 178 scheduled and drop-in legislative visits during IACP’s annual Compounder’s on Capitol Hill (CCH). As part of IACP's efforts to follow-up and ensure Congressional staffers have information on our key legislative issues, the Academy has published feedback reports (to date) for members to review.

CDC: Trained Pharmacists Must Be Involved in Dividing Single-use Vials – US Pharmacist Weekly Update

Following two outbreaks of Staphylococcus aureus infection in 10 patients being treated for pain in outpatient clinics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is strongly urging providers faced with drug shortages to avoid using single-dose vials (SDVs) or single-use medications for more than one patient unless the formulation is prepared by a “high-quality” pharmacy.
