Compounders on Capitol Hill 2015 News, April 17, 2015

A Practitioners Perspective on Veterinary Compounding

comes to CCH 2015

SESSION HIGHLIGHT:  A Practitioners Perspective on Veterinary Compounding at CCH Sunday,

June 7, 2015.

The 21st Annual Compounders on Capitol Hill (CCH) will be held June 6-9, 2015 at the Renaissance

Washington DC Downtown Hotel. With an expected 400 total attendees in 2015,CCH

brings together the top-level compounding pharmacists and technicians from across the

country with the same goal – to protect pharmacy compounding. Don't miss the only

pharmacy compounding event that takes our issues directly to Washington,

D.C.'s doorstep.

Ashley S. Morgan, DVM, Rachael G. Pontikes, JD, and Marcy Bliss will present

A Practitioners Perspective on Veterinary Compounding from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

on Sunday, June 7.

Although the Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA) of 2013 has provided

regulatory assurance for improving the quality of compounds prepared for

humans, the DQSA is silent on compounding for non-human patients.

Attendees will get to hear various perspectives on the benefits and risks of compounding

for animals and describe elements of potential initiatives (legal, educational,

organizational) that could improve the quality of compounds prepared for animals.

At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee

will be able to:

•    Identify the benefits and risks associated with decisions to compound medications for animals.
•    Discuss legislative and regulatory issues affecting compounding for animals.
•    Explain the impact current legislation has on compounding for animals with legislators

and policymakers.

Presented by: Ashley S. Morgan, DVM, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA); Rachael G. Pontikes, JD,

Partner, Duane Morris LLP, Marcy Bliss, Wedgewood Pharmacy
Program type: Knowledge-Based

The IACP 2015 Compounders on Capitol Hill may acquire up to 11.5 contact hours

(1.15 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
